DTI destroys Christmas lights without safety certification
The Department of Trade and Industry on Tuesday crushed several sets of Christmas lights that had been seized for lacking the necessary safety certifications.
Using heavy equipment, the DTI destroyed the sets of lights in front of its office in Makati City Tuesday morning.
A photo tweeted by GMA News' Julius Segovia showed the heavy equipment destroying the uncertified Christmas lights.

Meanwhile, a separate report by dzBB's Mao dela Cruz said at least 8,853 sets of Christmas lights worth P1.2 million were destroyed.
In past inspections of stores, DTI teams had seized several sets of Christmas lights that they found to lack Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) and Philippine Product Standards (PS) seals.
Following the destruction of the lights, the DTI reiterated its advice to the public to be careful in buying Christmas lights, to make sure they would not buy products that can easily short-circuit and cause fires. —Joel Locsin/KG, GMA News
