Power interruption in parts of Abra, Ilocos Sur, Biliran on Feb. 25

Parts of Abra and Ilocos Sur may experience an eight-hour power outage on Wednesday, Feb. 25, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines said.

In its advisory Monday, the NGCP said the outage will affect Abra Electric Cooperative (ABRECO) and Ilocos Sur Electric Cooperative (ISECO) – Narvacan and Candon Substations.

Affected areas include:

Ilocos Sur: Sta. Maria, Narvacan, Burgos, Nagbukkel, Santa, San Esteban, Santiago, Candon, Banayoyo, Sta. Lucia, Galimuyod, Tagudin, Salcedo, Sta. Cruz, Suyo, Sigay, Quirino, San Emilio, Gregorio del Pilar, Alilem, Cervantes, Lidlidda, and parts of Sugpon

Abra: entire province

The NGCP said this is due to the annual preventive maintenance and testing of the San Esteban 50-megavolt Transformer No. 3.

It said this is simultaneous with transmission line maintenance along San Esteban-Narvacan, San Esteban-Bangued, and San Esteban-Candon 69-kilovolt lines.

"Normal operations will immediately resume after work completion," the NGCP said.

7-hour outage in Biliran

Meanwhile, the Biliran local government said the Biliran Electric Cooperative indicated a power outage is expected as well on Wednesday, Feb. 25.

It said the interruption will be at Barangay Tucdao in Kawayan town from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., due to the upgrading of the three-phase line there. —Joel Locsin/KG, GMA News
