DTI reports record business registrations in Calabarzon
The Department of Trade and Industry said on Friday that the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon) region has set a record 8,728 new and 1,392 renewal transactions for business registrations this year.
According to DTI Management Services Undersecretary Nora Terrado, the Calabarzon figures account for 18 and 16 percent respectively for total registrations.
“We are pleased that our goal to equally drive business opportunities in the country’s regions is now being realized,” Terrado said.
Figures for the National Capital Region come in second with 5,453 new registration or 12 percent, and 771 renewals or 9 percent.
Terrado noted that this was the first time the largest number of registrations was recorded outside the NCR since the DTI implemented an online Business Name Registration System.
“The DTI intends to rollout further online initiatives that would integrate business registration-related processes across business registration agencies to facilitate ease of doing business, promote transparency, curb corruption, and reduce red tape in the bureaucracy,” she said.
Terrado also said there was an increase in women entrepreneurs who have registered a business with them since the launching of their online system.
Figures for female business registrations in Calabarzon were at 6,332 registrations or 21 percent of total registrations followed by the NCR with 3,530 registrations or 12 percent.
The DTI launched its online business registration system on November 2014 that has since seen a total of 4,757 online early renewal transactions that were processed. — Andrei Medina/JDS, GMA News
