100-hectare reclamation project for Minglanilla in Cebu approved

A 100-hectare reclamation project that will pave the way for an industrial park in Minglanilla town in Cebu has received the green light from the Cebu Provincial Reclamation Authority (CPRA).

The provincial government said such an industrial park will further spur economic development in the province's south part.

It added this will be the second public-private partnership reclamation project in the town approved by the CPRA this year.

Governor Hilario Davide III said the next step is to endorse the project to the Philippine Reclamation Authority.

Cebu Landmasters Inc. chairman Jose Soberano III said the deal has a similar format as the Cordova-SM Prime Holdings Inc. joint venture agreement approved by the CPRA last June.

He said 49 percent of the saleable land will be owned by private developer Ming-Mori Development Corp., a subsidiary of Cebu Landmasters.

The other 51 percent of the reclaimed land will be shared by PRA, Minglanilla, and Cebu province.

He added that while the Minglanilla-Ming-mori Reclamation and Industrial Park Development (MMRIPD) project may cost billions, the private developer will shoulder the funding.

Industrial zone

The provincial government said the MMRIPD project will involve 51.84-hectare industrial zone.

It will have commercial, institutional and utilities, residential/mix use zones while road networks will have sidewalk and bike lanes.

On the other hand, to decongest the traffic in Minglanilla, the town government is eyeing opening the road right of way of the old Philippine National Railway.

Mayor Elanito Peña said the old railway is 30 meters wide and goes through the public market area, and connects to the Cebu City South Road Properties. —Joel Locsin/KG, GMA News
