BIR cuts requirements, processing time for tax clearance certificates

In one of his first moves as head of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Commissioner Caesar R. Dulay lessened the requirements and the time it takes to process tax clearance certificates.

In Revenue Memorandum Circular No. 72-2016 signed on Thursday, Dulay ordered the immediate reduction of documentary requirements for tax clearances to just three, while cutting down the processing time to just two days.

“This Circular is being issued in order to streamline the requirements and the process in issuing Tax Clearances...” the circular read.

Now, the only requirements are an accomplished and notarized application form with two pieces of documentary stamp tax, a print-out of the payment receipt from the BIR’s electronic filing and payment system (eFPS), and a delinquency verification valid for one month.

According to the BIR, the delinquency verification will be issued by the BIR within 24 hours after it has been filed.

“The Tax Clearance shall be processed and released within two working days from the submission of the complete documents,” the circular read. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDS, GMA News
