DPWH opens 2 additional R-10 lanes

To improve the flow of traffic in Metro Manila, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Thursday opened two more lanes along the Radial Road 10.

"The opening of the additional two lanes along Radial Road 10 or R-10 on Thursday, January 12, 2017 between Pacheco Street to Zaragoza Street in Tondo, Manila will further improve vehicular traffic," DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said in an emailed statement.

The R-10 has been presented by the DPWH as an alternative for motorists from Monumento in Caloocan City who are heading to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).

"Following the mandate of President Duterte, Filipinos will now have access to an improved and widened Radial Road 10 or R-10 which they may opt to use as alternate route to EDSA via Bonifacio Drive and Roxas Boulevard in traveling from north to south and vice versa," Villar said.

According to the DPWH, it will conduct non-stop construction works until the R-10 is fully complete come April.

“The 24/7 operations will be maintained until the full six (6) concrete paved lanes along the northbound of R-10 Road is fully completed. We hope that by April 2017, the public could access all phases of the project,” he said.

The 24/7 pace of construction was rolled out in August 2016, in line with the administration's efforts to speed up construction works and increase budget spending. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/VS, GMA News
