DOLE program offers summer jobs for students
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is offering jobs for students who want to earn money while they are on summer vacation, a report on News to Go on Wednesday said.
DOLE said the project has already started in Manila, in which applicants have undergone the screening process. About 1,000 jobs are available for students in Manila.
"Related sa medicine, we try to deploy them sa mga city hospitals and mga health centers. 'Pag tourism naman, we have the Tourism office. Depende doon sa course na tine-take nila," Robin Carlo Reyes, officer-in-charge of Manila Youth Development and Welfare Bureau, said in a report on 24 Oras by Mark Salazar on Tuesday.
Under Republic Act No. 9547, the DOLE is tasked to implement a Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES).
The program is open for students who are at least 15 years old but not more than 25 years old.
Applicants are required to have an average passing grade during their last term in school.
They are also asked to reveal the combined net income of their parents or personal income which must "not exceed the latest annual regional poverty threshold level for a family of six as determined and provided by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA)."
DOLE said that around half a billion pesos were allocated for the said program. Forty percent of the salary will be coming from DOLE, while the 60 percent is from the local government units or private companies which are part of the program.
Interested applicants may start applying at DOLE offices near their area or at the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in their respective municipal hall. —Marlly Rome Bondoc/KG, GMA News
