BIR sues Caloocan resident for not paying P4.92M of taxes
The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Friday filed a criminal complaint with the Department of Justice (DOJ) against a Caloocan City taxpayer for allegedly not paying P4.92 million of taxes for 2010.
Charged for violating Section 255 of the Tax Code was Pepito Gutierrez Baes, who holds office on Rizal Avenue Extension, Grace Park, Caloocan City.
Baes had been issued notices of tax liabilities but failed to either protest or submit additional documents to refute the assessments, making them "final, executory, and demandable," according to the bureau.
In fact, the BIR said it was able to garnish P296,195.66 from the taxpayer's bank account.
Baes then pushed for a compromise deal, asking that he be allowed to pay 10 percent of his basic assessed income and value-added taxes and promising to pay his expanded withholding tax in full.
But after depositing his third installment, Baes failed to pay the remaining balance of P4.92 million, according to the BIR.
"Despite being reminded of his commitment to pay, repeated demands and the service of the Final Notice Before Filing Criminal Complaint, the said tax liability remained unpaid," the BIR said. — VDS, GMA News
