Ferrari, Lamborghini to follow Jaguar, Corvette in Customs’ smuggled cars death row
Recently confiscated super cars—a Ferrari and a Lamborghini—are expected to soon meet the same fate as the 30 smuggled luxury vehicles that were destroyed on Tuesday in the ports of Manila, Cebu and Davao.
According to Jun Veneracion's report on "24 Oras", the legal proceedings in connection with the 2005 Ferrari and the 2006 Lamborghini are already in the final stages.
"As of now, hinihintay lang namin finality ng mga cases pending before the different law divisions in our different ports," BOC Deputy Commissioner Edward James Dy Buco said on a "24 Oras" report by Jun Veneracion.
Legal proceedings as regards a seized McLaren would take a bit longer.
On Tuesday afternoon, heavy equipment destroyed 20 smuggled cars in Manila, seven in Davao, and three in Cebu.
Among those destroyed in Manila include a Jaguar and a rare Corvette Stingray.
President Rodrigo Duterte witnessed their destruction in Manila on occasion of the BOC's 116th anniversary.
Duterte had ordered the condemnation of smuggled luxury cars, saying that auctioning them off would just give smugglers an opportunity to secure them legally. —Margaret Claire Layug/NB, GMA News
