Bulacan-Tutuban railway will have trains better than Shinkansen, says DOTr’s Tugade

The North-South Commuter Railway will have trains better than Japan's Shinkansen or bullet train, Transportation chief Arthur Tugade said on Tuesday.

According to a report by Saleema Refran on GMA's 24 Oras, authorities are targeting to have the railway's first phase—running from Bulacan to Tutuban—be partially operational by 2022.

"'Yung mga tren na darating at gagawin nila ay more or less better doon sa mga tren na tumatakbo sa Japan ngayon. Better ho kesa doon sa tinatawag nilang Shinkansen," said Transportation chief Arthur Tugade.

This calamity-resilient rail system, powered by Japanese technology, will soon connect Clark, Pampanga to Calamba, Laguna.

Tugade formally signed a document on the procurement of one of the 13 trainsets for the project.

Each trainset is composed of eight coaches that can carry a total of 2,200 passengers.

The train has a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour.

The DOTr projects that the 90-minute travel time from Bulacan to Tutuban will be reduced to 30 minutes. — Dona Magsino/BM, GMA News
