Philippine financial markets close for National Heroes Day

Financial markets are closed in the Philippines on Monday, August 26, in commemoration of National Heroes Day.

There is no trading on both the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) and the Bankers Association of the Philippines (BAP). Markets will resume on Tuesday, August 27.

Malacañang earlier declared August 26 as a regular holiday in the Philippines.

The PSEi was up 40.58 points or 0.51% to 7,889.41 at the close of trading Friday, driven by last-minute bargain hunting.

The Philippine peso depreciated against the US dollar on Friday, weighed by data indicating a narrower government budget as of July. The local currency shed 1.5 centavos to close at P52.27:$1 from 52.255 on Thursday. —Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDS, GMA News
