Senior citizens to benefit from employment program launched in PUP
Fifteen senior citizens from Metro Manila will benefit from an employment program launched by the government at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) on Monday.
According to a report by Carlo Mateo on Dobol B sa News TV aired over GMA News TV, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, PUP president Emmanuel De Guzman, and Ang Probinsyano party-list Representative Ronnie Ong signed a memorandum of understanding for the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.
Under this initiative, the senior citizen beneficiaries will be hired in the university for a minimum of 10 to a maximum of 90 days.
Ang Probinsyano party-list has partnered with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) by shouldering the compensation for the said senior citizens.
Bello encouraged the party-list to further widen the scope of the project to help more senior citizens who are seeking employment.
Meanwhile, as more companies such as fast-food chains and restaurants in Metro Manila are opening opportunities for senior citizens and persons with disabilities, the DOLE reminded employers in the private sector that they are also entitled to equal wages and benefits. —Dona Magsino/KG, GMA News
