BOC launches Authorized Economic Operator Program

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) launched on Monday the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Program, which seeks to increase the security of international trading operations.

In a statement, the BOC said the implementation of the project is part of its commitment to the World Customs Organization’s SAFE Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade.

An AEO will serve whatever function it has been permitted to perform by the BOC. It is considered a trusted partner of the government in trade.

Some of the trade facilitation benefits for accredited AEOs are expedited processing and release of shipments, a minimum number of cargo security inspections, priority processing by customs in times of elevated threats, and mutual recognition of AEO status by customs authorities.

The implementation of the program will be handled by an interim AEO office under the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Assessment and Operations Group. —Julia Mari Ornedo/LDF, GMA News
