BPI’s new trust fund allows Pinoys to invest in US stocks
Filipino investors can now place their pesos in US stocks, the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) said Tuesday.
BPI Invest US Equity Index Feeder Fund Peso Class eliminates the need for Filipinos to exchange their pesos to US dollars in order to invest in the US market, the bank said.
“Investing in both local and global markets allows investors to derive returns from other markets and experience less volatility in their overall portfolio,” said BPI Asset Management and Trust Corporation president Sheila Tan.
The trust fund covers a diversified portfolio of US stocks that belong to the Standard and Poor’s 500 Index, which includes companies like Apple Inc., Microsoft Corporation, Amazon.com Inc., and Facebook, Inc.
BPI said the UITF is suitable for investors with an aggressive risk profile and awareness of the risks involved in investing in the US market.
The minimum investment for the fund is P50,000 or $1,000. Investors can top up for as low as P10,000 or $500. —Julia Mari Ornedo/VDS, GMA News
