Duterte assures enough food during enhanced community quarantine vs. COVID-19

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday assured the public that there will be enough supplies of food while Luzon is under an enhanced community quarantine to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Addressing the nation from Malacañang, Duterte said he received assurances from San Miguel Corporation president Ramon Ang and other food conglomerates of sufficient supplies.

“I have been assured Ramon Ang mismo of San Miguel and the other food conglomerates that there will be sufficient food,” he said in a televised address.

“There will be no hunger in the coming weeks because we have enough supplies.”
He also directed the barangay captains to ensure that their constituents will get enough food during the quarantine period or face sanctions for dereliction of duty.

“This is a mandatory duty. It does not have to have a law because the proclamation [on the state of public health emergency] itself suggests that there is really a need for you to work with government,” he said.

The guidelines for the Luzon-wide community quarantine have yet to be released by the government. -NB, GMA News
