Agri dept. to probe reports of pork overpricing
The Department of Agriculture (DA) will look into reports of alleged overpricing in pork, its chief said on Tuesday in an interview on Dobol B sa News TV.
DA Secretary William Dar said he will coordinate with the hog industry about the reported increase in farm gate and market prices of pork.
“Titingnan natin kung ganyan nga ang nangyayari. Kakausapin din namin ang hog industry,” he said.
While acknowledging the impact of African swine fever (ASF) on the industry, Dar noted that there is enough supply of pork especially in the Visayas and Mindanao.
“Hindi naman — dito siguro sa bandang Luzon — pero sa Visayas at Mindanao, marami pang baboy doon. So masyadong mataas po ‘yung presyo na na-monitor nito,” Dar said.
According to Dar, the suggested retail price for pork is P190 per kilo. --Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
