DA says enough food, grocery items for everyone amid ECQ

The Department of Agriculture (DA) said that there is enough food and other grocery items for everyone as shoppers took to the supermarkets ahead of the enforcement of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the NCR Plus bubble.

According to a report by Katrina Son on “24 Oras Weekend,” Agriculture Secretary William has already ordered the department and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) to keep the supply of food going.

“We have instructed [them] to sustain the continuous transport and delivery of their respective surplus production of vegetables, fishery, livestock products and other basic food commodities,” he said.

Philippine Amalgamated Supermarkets Association president Steven Cua, meanwhile, urged everyone to stop panic-buying as doing so might cause shortage.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque also said that supermarkets, wet markets and convenience stores will remain open amid ECQ.

Earlier Sunday, crowds trooped to markets after the Palace announced that Metro Manila, Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan and Cavite will go into ECQ beginning at midnight on Monday. — Franchesca Viernes/BM, GMA News
