BSP: Order quota reached for P125 commemorative coin honoring Jose Rizal’s 125th death anniversary
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said Friday that the order quota for its sale of P125 commemorative coins to mark the 125th death anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal has been reached.
This means that orders for the commemorative coins are now closed.
In a Facebook post, the BSP said the 125-piso commemorative coin “showcases Dr. Rizal as a global Filipino hero.”
“His life and legacy serve as inspiration for people from all walks of life,” it said.
The commemorative coin is 34 millimeters in diameter and made of Nordic gold.
“[It] features the portrait and signature of Dr. Rizal, the inscriptions 125 years and martyrdom of Jose Rizal on its obverse side and also features the Rizal Monument, the BSP logo, the inscriptions 125 Piso and Republika ng Pilipinas on its reverse side,” the BSP said.
Rizal, who wrote novels that tackled the ills of Philippine society under Spanish rule, was born on June 19, 1861 in Calamba, Laguna.
He was executed by firing squad on December 30, 1896 at Bagumbayan (now Rizal Park in Manila) after a Spanish court martial found him guilty of sedition, rebellion, and conspiracy. — VBL, GMA News
