Goring’s initial damage to agri at P189.1M —DA
The damage and losses incurred by the agriculture sector due to the onslaught of Typhoon Goring has reached nearly P200 million, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said Wednesday.
Based on the DA-Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center’s report as of August 30, initial assessment on Goring’s damage amounted to P189.1 million, affecting 3,962 farmers in Cagayan Valley.
In terms of volume, the weather disturbance destroyed 7,032 metric tons (MT) of crops in 11, 280 hectares of agricultural areas.
“Most of the damage and losses were incurred at reproductive and maturity stages of corn and rice,” the DA said.
The Agriculture Department said it has prepared the following interventions:
- P100 million worth of rice, corn and assorted vegetable seeds
- Drugs and biologics for livestock and poultry
- Quick Response Fund (QRF) for the rehabilitation of affected areas.
“The DA-DRRM Operations Center will continuously provide updates regarding Goring,” the agency said.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
