Fish delivery in regional ports hit 47.9K MT in Dec. 2023

The volume of fish unloaded in the country’s regional fish ports rose to 47,952.79 metric tons in December 2023, the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) said Tuesday.

The unloading volume last month was higher than the 45,355.24 metric tons of fish unloaded in regional ports in December 2022.

In its report, the PFDA said the General Santos Fish Port Complex continued its positive unloading streak after unloading 25,005.442 MT of fish, up 2.58%.

The Bulan Fish Port Complex also saw an increase in unloading in December 2023 with 1,174.00 MT of fish, up 2.59%.

The PFDA said the Davao Fish Port Complex recorded the highest percentage jump at 175.92% in monthly fish unloading with 1,215.12 MT of fish delivered.

Meanwhile, the agency said the Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) experienced a slight decline in fish unloading in December last year “due to the implementation of closed fishing seasons in the Visayan Sea and Northern Palawan.”

Nonetheless, the PFDA said the Navotas port saw the delivery of 16,506.60 MT of fish.

The agency added that the Iloilo Fish Port Complex and Lucena Fish Port Complex recovered from a month-on-month decline with 1,724.49 MT of fish unloaded (up 4.34%) and 1,521.27 MT (up 4.32%), respectively.

Fish unloading in the Zamboanga Fish Port Complex was also slightly affected by the closed sardine fishing season in the Zamboanga Peninsula, according to the PFDA.

The Zamboanga fish port still saw the unloading of 772.975 MT of fish in December 2023.

Various closed fishing seasons also affected the Sual Fish Port, the PFDA said, adding that the Sual port saw the delivery of 32.9 MT of fish. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
