Marcos woos Czech investors


PRAGUE - President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is hopeful that more investors from Czech Republic will invest in the country. 

During the joint press conference with President Petr Pavel, Marcos said he mentioned about the Philippines’ economic performance to woo Czech investors. 

“I also highlighted to the President the Philippines’ remarkable economic performance, that making it an attractive destination for Czech investment in the areas of IT-BPM, in electronics, manufacturing, food and agriculture, and automotive / EV manufacturing, amongst others,” Marcos said. 

“I am optimistic that we will be able to attract more Czech traders and investors to do business with the Philippines as a result of this increased engagement between our respective business sectors,” he added. 

The President also said he looks forward to the convening of the 2nd meeting of the Philippines-Czech Republic Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation in Manila that will occur later this year.

In 2022, the country ranked as the Philippines’ 39th trading partner and 47th import supplier. 

As of December 31, 2023, the number of estimated Filipinos in the country is 7,026 based on data from the Czech Ministry of Interior. 

Marcos said his state visit to Prague reaffirms the Philippines’ commitment in further cultivating the bonds and friendship which the Czech Republic and cementing the enduring ties between the two countries and its citizens. 

He mentioned Dr. Jose Rizal’s time in Prague with his friend, Ferdinand Blumentritt. 

“And it is something very well appreciated by all of Filipinos and it is something that provides us a foundation on which to build upon,” he said. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
