PSE trading resumes after one day halt due to Carina-enhanced Habagat

The Philippine Stock Exchange Inc. (PSE) on Thursday announced the resumption of trading activities in the local bourse after a day of halt amid the heavy rains and flooding brought by the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat enhanced by Super Typhoon Carina.

“Please be informed that trading at the Philippine Stock Exchange shall resume today, July 25, 2024,” the stock market operator said in an advisory.

As of 10:15 a.m. on July 25, the benchmark PSEi shed 84.82 points or 1.26% to 6,668.30, while the broader All Shares was also in the red as it declined by 31.12 points or 0.86% to 3,607.36.

The PSE suspended trading amid the Palace’s announcement of suspension of government work in Metro Manila due to Wednesday's inclement weather.

As of Thursday morning, Typhoon Carina has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

But PAGASA said Carina will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat that will bring moderate to intense rains over the western section of Luzon. — Ted Cordero/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
