RICE-FOR-ALL PROGRAM

DA to start selling P40/kilo rice at MRT-North Ave., LRT-Monumento stations next week

The Department of Agriculture (DA) is rolling out its Rice-for-All program, selling the grain at P40 per kilo, in two stations of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3) and Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT1) next week.

At the Saturday News Forum, DA Assistant Secretary Genevieve Guevarra said the agency will be setting up Kadiwa ng Pangulo stalls at the North Avenue station of MRT3 and Monumento station of LRT1 on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.

“We saw that there are a lot of commuters in these stations… We have considered the foot traffic and accessibility in choosing the stations,” Guevarra said in a mix of Filipino and English.

Aside from North Avenue and Monumento stations, the MRT3’s Guadalupe station and LRT1’s Taft Avenue and PITX stations were also recommended by the Department of Transportation for the rollout of the P40 per kilo rice, the DA official said.

In the meantime, the DA decided to roll out the program at North Avenue and Monumento stations to maximize the train stations’ foot traffic, according to Guevarra.

Earlier this week, Guevarra said P40 per kilo rice will also be available at major public markets.

"Currently, we are coordinating with the following major markets in NCR for the rollout: Kamuning Market, Malabon Central Market, New Las Piñas City Public Market, Pasay City Public Market, Balintawak Market, Cartimar Market, Pateros Grace Marketplace, Maypajo Public Market, Paco Market,” Guevarra said last Wednesday.

These kiosks will offer Rice-for-All at an affordable price of P40 per kilo, available from Tuesdays to Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.,” Guevarra then said. —KG, GMA Integrated News
