NGCP: Power grid ops remain normal as Eleksyon 2025 closes
Operations of the country’s three main power grids remained normal as the 2025 Philippine midterm elections closed Monday, May 12, 2025, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).
In its situation updates as of 7 p.m., the NGCP reiterated that its “transmission lines and facilities are under normal operations” across the Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao power grids.
The polls closed at 7 p.m.
The grid operator saw reduced consumption on Election Day, a special non-working holiday, as indicted by the power supply and demand situations in all the three grids, as follows:
Luzon
- Capacity - 15,362MW
- Demand - 10,141MW
Visayas
- Capacity - 2,571MW
- Demand - 2,084MW
Mindanao
- Capacity - 3,591MW
- Demand - 2,048MW
The grid operator suspended all maintenance activities ahead of the midterm polls to ensure uninterrupted and reliable transmission during the conduct of polls as well as canvassing and proclamation of winners.
The Department of Energy (DOE) earlier said that there is enough supply of electricity to provide power during the dry season and the 2025 national and local elections.
The National Electrification Administration (NEA), likewise, said that the Philippine energy sector is fully prepared, and that there would be stable and sufficient electricity supply during the national and local elections. — BM, GMA Integrated News
