May 2025 inflation seen at 0.9% to 1.7% — BSP

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) expects the country's inflation to remain below 2% for the month of May.

In its month-ahead inflation forecast, the BSP said it projects that the prices of consumer goods and services rose within the 0.9% to 1.7% range this month.

The central bank attributed the possible continued deceleration of inflation to favorable domestic supply conditions along with lower oil prices, electricity rates, and the peso appreciation.

The country's inflation eased to 1.4% in April, marking its third straight month below 2%. This was the slowest since November 2019, when inflation clocked in at 1.2%.

"These could be offset in part by higher prices of vegetables and meat items. Going forward, the Monetary Board will continue to take a measured approach in adjusting the monetary policy stance in line with its price stability objectives conducive to balanced and sustainable growth of the economy and employment," the BSP said in a statement. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
