President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos on Sunday announced a "big" rollback in pump prices, confirming an earlier statement by the Department of Energy.

At sa kerosene, P8.50 kada litro ang ibababa," he said.

(Starting Tuesday, April 14, there will be a big rollback in the prices of fuel. Diesel will go down by more than P20 [a liter], while gasoline will decrease by P4.43 a liter. Kerosene will go down by P8.50 per liter.)

The DOE earlier on Sunday said that pump prices of diesel might decrease by P20.89 per liter, while that of gasoline may be down by P4.43 per liter and kerosene by P8.50 per liter this week.

However, he added, "hindi pa ito sapat."

(This will be a big help especially to our drivers, commuters, and to every Filipino family who is affected by the high prices of oil every day. This is not enough.)

(The government continues its efforts to ease the effects of high oil prices on your daily lives. We will not stop until we have lowered the costs of travel, food, and the cost of living in general.)

Masrcos added that in the following weeks and days, he will make more announcements on additional government measures.

Fuel prices have soared in the last several weeks amid the conflict in the Middle East involving the United States, Israel and Iran.

The US and Israel struck the Islamic republic on the last day of February, assassinating Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and attacking other parts of the country. In retaliation, Iran struck Israel and Gulf countries that had US bases.

It also took control of the Strait of Hormuz, closing the vital waterway through which at least 20% of seaborne oil and liquified natural gas passes through and sending global oil prices skyrocketing.
