DTI: No price hike on basic goods until May 10, 2026

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said Monday that the voluntary price freeze on basic necessities and prime commodities has been extended until May 10, following agreements with manufacturers and retailers.

According to Nimfa Ravelo's report on Super Radyo dzBB, Trade Secretary Maria Cristina Aldeguer-Roque made the announcement during a visit to a grocery store in Muntinlupa, extending an earlier commitment that initially covered prices only until April 30.

“Based on our latest meetings with them, they have extended the no price increase for the basic necessity and prime commodities,” Roque said.

The DTI said the extension was reached after consultations with industry stakeholders, as part of efforts to maintain stable prices of essential goods.

When asked whether easing oil prices contributed to the decision, Roque said lower input costs can help keep prices steady.

“Of course, lahat nakakatulong. Whatever decrease in cost, it always helps naman,” she said.

(Of course, everything helps. Any decrease in costs helps overall.)

The price freeze covers selected essential goods classified as basic necessities and prime commodities, which are regularly monitored by the DTI.

Officials said they will continue coordinating with manufacturers and retailers to sustain stable prices, especially amid fluctuating global and domestic cost pressures. — RSJ, GMA News
