Visayas grid on yellow alert on Monday, June 22, 2026
The Visayas grid will be on yellow alert for a longer period than initially expected on Monday afternoon, June 22, 2026, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said.
In an advisory issued at 11 a.m. the NGCP said the yellow alert status will be in place from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., two hours longer than the earlier announced 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The NGCP said the power grid's available capacity is 2,593MW, but peak demand is 2,427MW.
"A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement," the company said.
The NGCP also said some plants are still on forced outage or are running on derated capacities, as follows:
- 8 plants on forced outage on June 2026;
- 8 plants on forced outage since May 2026;
- 1 plant on forced outage since March 2026;
- 3 plants on forced outage since 2025;
- 2 plants on forced outage since 2024;
- 2 plants on forced outage since 2023;
- 1 plant on forced outage since 2021; and
- 15 plants running on derated capacities.
This resulted in a total of 944MW unavailable to the grid, it said.
The unavailability of Visayas' large coal plants TVI 1, TVI 2, and PEDC 3 as well as the high demand forecast were factors that contributed to the declaration of yellow alert, NGCP said. —with a report from Jon Viktor Cabuenas/KG, GMA News
