Visayas Grid on yellow alert on Sunday evening, June 28, 2026

The Visayas Grid will be on yellow alert from 6 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2026, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said.

This is due to the available capacity of the grid at 2,560 MW while peak demand is at 2,292 MW, the NGCP said.

Some power plants are on forced outage or are running on derated capacities as follows:

  • 15 plants on forced outage in June 2026;
  • 8 plants on forced outage since May 2026;
  • 1 plant on forced outage since March 2026;
  • 3 plants on forced outage since 2025;
  • 2 plants on forced outage since 2024;
  • 2 plants on forced outage since 2023;
  • 1 plant on forced outage since 2021; and
  • 14 plants running on derated capacities.

These resulted in a total of 974.8 MW unavailable to the Visayas grid, the NGCP added.

Visayas' large coal plants TVI 1, TVI 2, and PEDC 3 are also unavailable, and coupled with the high demand forecast, this contributed to the yellow alert declaration, the company said.

"A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement," the NGCP said. —KG, GMA News
