NGCP: Visayas grid on yellow alert on Wednesday, July 1, 2026
The Visayas grid will be placed on yellow alert on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, as major coal plants in the region continue to be unavailable, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said.
The yellow alert status — indicating that the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement — will be in place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The grid’s available capacity was recorded at 2,599 megawatts (MW), against a peak demand of 2,411 MW. A total of 935.3 MW is unavailable to the grid.
The NGCP attributed the declaration to the continued outage of Therma Visayas Inc. (TVI) 1, TVI 2, and Panay Energy Development Corp. (PEDC) unit 3.
It said that two plants are on forced outage in July 2026, eight plants since June 2026, seven plants since May 2026, one plant since March 2026, three plants since 2025, two plants since 2024, two plants since 2023, and one plant since 2021 while 17 plants are running on derated capacities. —AOL, GMA News
