Riders return to cabs amid Uber suspension, but complaints vs. taxi drivers continue


With ride-sharing firm Uber suspended for one month, many commuters have gone back to taxis—but complaints against taxi drivers continue to pop up on social media.

People on the street trying to get rides have also voiced their frustration with picky taxi drivers.

"Mahirap kasi maraming tumatanggi...sobrang nakakabuwiset pag ganoon," said one frustrated rider in a report by JP Soriano on Balitanghali.

"Mga dalawang beses ako nagpara ng walang laman. Hindi niya ako pinarahan," said another.

"Pagka traffic po nagpapadagdag po ng pamasahe," said a third.

On Tuesday, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) vowed to be stricter against selective and abusive taxi drivers.

"I can assure you, we are hitting pasaway na taxi drivers po," said LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra in the report.

"You assert your right and then kapag ayaw talaga, that's the time you complain," he added.

Under its Oplan Isnabero, the LTFRB urged the public to report taxi drivers who refuse to accommodate or give them a ride.

The LTFRB and the taxi drivers association will meet on Wednesday to discuss commuters' issues and complaints against taxi drivers.

Meanwhile, the agency is also closely monitoring the reported price surge of another transport network company, Grab Philippines.

"We have told Grab to stay on the cap that we have imposed as early as December 27, 2016 where they were allowed a surge of twice as much as the basic rate," Delgra said. — Anna Felicia Bajo/BM, GMA News
