Private emission test centers with expiring accreditation get 60-day grace period
Private emission testing centers (PETCs) in areas under quarantine with expiring certificates of accreditation have been granted a 60-day grace period to comply with requirements.
In a statement on Thursday, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said PETCs, even those with expiring certificates, will remain operational under the quarantines.
"We recognize the important role of these PETCs, not to mention the impact of this pandemic on them, that is why the DTI considered giving two (2) months allowance after the lifting of the GCQ to give them time to adjust with their resources and the necessary health protocols," said Trade Undersecretary Ruth Castelo.
Metro Manila, along with 11 provinces, continue be under the general community quarantine (GCQ) until August 31.
Under memorandum circular 20-40, PETCs will be allowed to operate under the same terms and conditions, unless their Certificate of Accreditation is revoked or canceled for any reason other than term validity.
The DTI, under the Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999, is mandated to develop and implement standards and procedures for the licensing of qualified private service centers and their technicians.
Certificates of Accreditation are valid for three years, unless sooner canceled voluntarily or if the PETC committed any of the prohibited acts.
Guidelines dictate that a PETC must file an application for renewal of accreditation within three months before its expiration.
The general public is advised to check the DTI's list of accredited PETCs. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
