SM Prime to add 50 more EV charging stations in 2025
Sy-led integrated property developer SM Prime Holdings Inc. is looking to install at least 50 more electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across its nationwide portfolio this year, with the company looking to deploy stations in its residential communities moving forward.
The additional stations will complement the 131 electric vehicle charging stations the company has deployed across the country as of the first quarter of 2025, located in its malls and office developments. Future installations are planned in residential communities and leisure estates.
“We are focused on making sustainability practical and accessible. Expanding our EV charging network is one way we are enabling Filipinos to adopt greener habits as part of daily life,” SM Prime president Jeffrey Lim said in a statement.
“Integrating sustainable practices into our operations is a core part of SM Prime’s long-term strategy… Through this initiative, we are also supporting the government’s vision for an inclusive and future-ready EV ecosystem,” he added.
This comes as the Department of Energy (DOE) is looking to have EVs account for 25% of the passenger vehicle market by 2030, and 50% by 2040.
SM Prime ended 2024 with 87 malls in the Philippines and eight in China. The company is also involved in residential and commercial developments, along with hotels, convention centers, and trade halls.
Its subsidiaries include SM Development Corp., Costa del Hamilo Inc., Tagaytay Resort Development Corp., SM Arena Complex Corp., SM Hotels and Conventions Corp., and SM Land (China) Limited.
The company has set a P100-billion spending program for this year, with bulk or P67 billion going to residential projects which will include regional, premium, and leisure developments. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA Integrated News
