BIR sues 8 people for tax evasion


The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Thursday filed before the Department of Justice separate tax evasion complaints against eight individuals involving P414 million in unsettled obligations.
 
Revenue Commissioner Kim Henares said eight people were charged with the following acts: willful attempt to evade or defeat tax, or deliberate failure to supply correct and accurate information in annual income tax return and quarterly value added tax returns.
 
The people were charged with all or a combination of the violations cited, Henares said during a press conference in Manila. 
 
Emmanuel Avila, president of Avila Metal Products in San Juan City, had a tax liability of P254.2 million, according to the BIR.
 
Jihn Aricheta, operator of Metropolitan Caltex Service Station in Sta. Cruz, Manila, owed the government P3.93 million in unpaid taxes in 2008, the BIR claimed.
 
Officials of Lechten Trading Corp. in Malate, Manila were also charged with a tax liability of P86.46 million from 2007. The company officials include president Janil Calabines, finance officer Danilo Salice, and secretary Douglas Cochesa, the filing showed.
 
Officers of Wintelecom in Malate, Manila, primarily its president Winston Uychiyong and treasurer Hua Uychiyong, were sued over P22.45-million in unpaid taxes from taxable year 2007.
 
The BIR also accused Antonio Saldana Vianzon of Orani Builders Supply of Bataan of not paying P47.26 million in taxes in 2013.
 
The latest tax evasion complaints bring to 352 the total number of cases lodged by the BIR before the DOJ, under its Run After Tax Evaders or RATE program. – VS, GMA News
