Banks offer 'kasambahay savings' accounts

Household helpers in Metro Manila can open savings accounts next month for an initial deposit of as low as P100.

 

Interested household helpers could open accounts with banks under the "Kasambahay Savings Project" at the St. John of the Cross Parish in Makati City on September 27, according to a report on GMA News' evening newscast "24 Oras" on Monday. 

 

Almost 200 kasambahays have opened the savings account since Lindsey Lim, a Columbia University student pursuing a Master of International Affairs, started the Kasambahay Savings Project in 2014.

 

Under the project, participating banks agreed to require a lower initial deposit and make the process less complex for kasambahays to open savings accounts.  — Keith Richard Mariano/ELR, GMA News
