More and more car owners today are joining Uber as a convenient way to earn extra money during their downtime.

To be an Uber driver, you sign up through the Uber rider app downloadable on your smartphone. You can also attend official partner info sessions happening in different parts of the country.

You can also be an Uber driver even without your own car. But if you do own a car, it must be at least 3 years old from the date of your Uber application. This means if you’re joining Uber this year, your car must be a model 2013.

Some of the recommended for uberX cars include the Nissan Sentra, Mitsubishi Mirage, Toyota Altis, Toyota Innova, Toyota Vios, Toyota Wigo, Ford Fusion, Hyundai Elantra, Hyundai Eon, Hyundai Sonata, Hyundai Tucson, and Kia Optima. For UberBLACK, some of the recommended vehicles include Ford Everest, Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota Fortuner, Mazda CX5, and Mitsubishi Montero.

In addition, the vehicle should have four fully and independently functioning doors, with no damage or missing parts and commercial branding or taxi paint jobs.

Vans and heavy duty trucks are out.

uberX charges a base fare or flag down rate of P40 minimum fare then ?5 per kilometer. UberBLACK charges a base fare of ?90, and P133.75 per kilometer.
