More than 56% of Filipinos enjoy haggling for discounts —survey

Filipinos are among the people in the world who enjoy haggling the most, results of a recent survey by e-commerce company Picodi.com.

Results of a survey showed 56 percent of Filipinos enjoy haggling, compared with 66 percent in Indonesia and 61 percent in India.

Picodi’s “A Handle on Haggling” report noted the Philippines was the third top country—out of the 44 countries surveyed—where people enjoyed haggling.

“People from Indonesia, India, and the Philippines typically enjoyed bargaining the most,” Picodi said.

On average, Filipinos are able to haggle 21-percent discount, the same survey showed.

Most Filipinos or 56 percent said it was easier for women to haggle.

“A majority of the countries—with the Philippines on top of them—believed it was much easier for women than men to haggle,” Picodi noted.“In the Philippines, people also acknowledged that women tended to have a leg-up when it came to negotiating,” it said.

While this was the case, 30 percent of Filipinos said the ease of haggling was the same for both men and women, while 14 percent said it was easier for men.

Filipinos were the most likely to haggle for clothes or food.

“When it comes to the Philippines, consider trying to negotiate a better price for your food bill,” Picodi said.

The survey included 1,700 respondents from Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Central and South America, Europe, North America, and Oceania.

Launched in 2010, Picodi is an e-commerce company that owns a chain of internet products providing online shopping discounts. It currently operates in more than 30 markets around the world. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDS, GMA News
