Cebuana Lhuillier opens micro financial services to Aetas in Pampanga

Cebuana Lhuillier on Monday said it has opened its micro financial services to an indigenous community in Porac, Pampanga through its Iponaryo financial literacy program.

In a statement on Monday, Cebuana Lhuillier said an Aeta farming community in Pampanga has recently opened micro-savings accounts.

“We are happy that an Aeta community is now part of our growing number of Iponaryos , a step closer to financial inclusion,” said Jean Henri Lhuillier, president and CEO of Cebuana Lhuillier.

The Aetas belong to Barangays Diaz  and Villamaria in Sitio Tarik, Pampanga which can only be reached by climbing a mountain and trekking through rough terrain.

The members of the community were said to have been given financial literacy booklets and were also taught several initiatives such as the “invisible P50 savings challenge.”

In the challenge, individuals treat every P50 bill as “invisible” and are put into savings. —Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDS, GMA News
