Pinoy consumer spending not yet back to pre-pandemic level, study says

There are no longer restrictions on various business and transportation but the spending habits of Filipinos have not returned to pre-COVID level according to data from Moody's analytics, EJ Gomez reported on "Saksi."

According to Moody's analytics, inflation has an effect on efforts to recover from COVID-19 pandemic in the Asia Pacific region.

There are no restrictions on businesses and transportation but there is still no "big shift" or major changes in the spending habits of Filipinos.

The Philippines is one of the countries in Asia wherein the degree of spending of consumers on services has not returned to pre-pandemic level.

The work from home set up of some companies could be a factor that could be considered in this situation.

"Nabawasan yung mga taong lumalabas. In a given day, yung mga namamasahe, nagbabayad sa mga pamasahe, iba-ibang mode of transport. Mapa-bus, jeep, train and tricycle, etcetera. Nabawasan iyon. syempre pag nasa labas sila, kakain sila sa labas, mamimili sila at yung iba pang gastusin. Yan yung nakabawas e," said economist Michael Ricafort.

But there is hope in the tourism industry as the number of tourist arrivals is expected to return to the pre-pandemic level. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
