ISSUES
  • 'Winnability' in the Senate. Escudero filed his candidacy for senator on January 30, 2007. Escudero ranked 14th in PulseAsia's November 2006 nationwide survey on Filipinos' senatorial preferences--81% of the respondents know him, and 19.3% will vote for him. In Ibon's survey on the same month, he ranked second with 45.15% of top-of-the-mind responses, but ranked seventh with 28.78% among respondents who were presented with choices.
  • Arroyo impeachment. Escudero endorsed the 2005 and 2006 impeachment complaints against Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
  • Davide impeachment. In 2003, Escudero was among the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) representatives who endorsed an impeachment complaint against then Chief Justice Hilario Davide.
  • Bright Boys member. Escudero was one of the so-called Bright Boys at the House of Representatives during the Estrada administration. It was a group of seven first-termer congressmen from the administration party Lapian ng Masang Pilipino. The group was formed to defend Estrada's charter change attempt--the Constitutional Correction for Development or Concord. The group was, in effect, the Estrada administration's answer to the opposition's Spice Boys. With Escudero in the group were Rodolfo Albano III, Alan Peter Cayetano, Ace Durano, Edmundo Reyes, Jr., Jurdin Jesus Romualdo, and Gilberto Teodoro, Jr.
