Ermita police: Foreigner who collapsed in Manila was a drunk Korean

The foreigner who collapsed in Manila and was left untended for over an hour was a drunk Korean, Ermita police said.

A concerned bystander had taken to social media to describe the foreigner's plight, saying that he had collapsed to the ground shivering.

He also said that he called several medical centers but that none extended assistance.

On Sunday evening, citing a report by the Ermita Police Station, the Manila Public Information Office said the man in the video was a "drunk Korean national."

"Ermita Police Station Commander Police Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Caramoan... said [the man] personally appeared at the police station and informed them that he was 'surprised' that there were photos and videos of him showing that he may have been infected by the virus," it said in a Facebook post.

Super Radyo dzBB correspondent Ralph Obina also posted photos provided by Barangay 696 authorities, who said that the man went to the barangay hall to get his belongings back.

The incident occurred amid fears over the 2019 novel coronavirus, which has infected thousands of people in China and all over the world and killed at least 305 people. The Philippines on Sunday recorded the first death from the virus outside of China. — Julia Mari Ornedo/BM, GMA News
