Militants make rounds of gov’t agencies to protest AFP 'abuses'

Some 300 militants protesting alleged human rights violations picketed key government agencies Tuesday, including the headquarters of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in Camp Aguinaldo.

Tension marred the militants' picket at Camp Aguinaldo's Gate 2, with the militants throwing red paint at the gate and the soldiers retaliating with water cannons, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported.

At Camp Aguinaldo, the 300 members of Karapatan arrived aboard 20 vehicles and accused the military of alleged human rights violations in Southern Luzon, including Quezon province.

They brought a mock coffin symbolizing victims of supposed extra-judicial killings.

After picketing Camp Aguinaldo, the militants went to the Department of Interior and Local Government and National Housing Authority offices in Quezon City.

They then went to the Philippine Coconut Authority office before proceeding to the Commission on Human Rights, which they asked to look into alleged military abuses. –KG, GMA News
