Families of 57 fire victims agree to P151K settlement – Kentex lawyer

Kentex Manufacturing Corporation, the company that owns the gutted two-story footwear factory where 72 workers died, said on Tuesday that the families of 57 victims had settled with the company.

Kentex lawyer Atty. Renato Paraiso told GMA News in a statement that the 57 families had signed quit-claims, waivers, and releases in favor of Kentex and its officials, with each family to receive P151,200:

  • P100,000    -    Death Benefits
  • P  30,000    -    Cash equivalent value of identifying remains
  • P    6,200    -    Cash equivalent of coffin
  • P  10,000    -    Burial assistance
  • P    5,000    -    Travel assistance

“Maliwanag po na lahat po ng aming pinangako simula po nung una kaming magharap ng mga pamilya at kaanak ng aming mga empleyado ay tinupad natin at makakaasa po sila na patuloy pa din po kami sa pagtupad sa lahat ng aming binitawan na salita,” Paraiso claimed in the statement.

Kentex's lawyer added that the families that had agreed to the settlement could still file charges against personalities, companies, or agencies other than Kentex and its officials. — DVM, GMA News
