LRT-2 beep cards now being used at Santolan, Katipunan Stations

After pilot testing the "tap in, tap out" beep cards at selected stations of the Light Rail Transit Line 2, the high-tech ticketing system is now being used at the Santolan and Katipunan Stations.

A report on Unang Hirit on Wednesday said passengers' getting in and out of the paid-up area at selected stations are now faster with the use of "contactless" cards.

In mid-July the beep cards were pilot tested at the Legarda and Betty Go Belmonte Stations.

Also the report said that even if the cards are inside passengers' bags, the ticketing machine can still detect them.

The report quoted Light Rail Transit Authority spokesman Atty. Hernando Cabrera as saying they are now preparing for the public trial of beep cards at LRT-1 southbound stations..

Earlier reports indicated the touch-and-load cards pilot-testing went well at the Legarda Station despite some glitches. — LBG, GMA News
