More cops in Tondo during New Year's Eve revelry

Tondo is among the areas in Manila where police are expecting incidents of indiscriminate firing during the New Year's Eve revelry.

Supt. Nicolas Salazar Piñon, chief of the Manila Police District Station 2, said additional policemen will be deployed in Tondo and other areas in the city where they are expecting incidents of indiscriminate firing during the New Year's Eve revelry.

"Nadagdagan naman tayo ng mga pulis na bago, kinalat natin sa mga alam nating may possible na magkakaroon ng mga ganyang insidente. Police presence saka yung patrolling," Piñon said.

One stray bullet victim has been recorded in Tondo last December 28.

The victim, identified only as Michael in a Balitanghali report of Sandra Aguinaldo, was hit by a stray bullet in the stomach at the corner of Asuncion and Ortega streets at around 3 a.m.

"May narinig ho akong putok, 'di ko alam kung saan galing yung putok. Nagulat ako may dumudugo na sa ano ko... Mahirap naman hong magbintang. Kaya Diyos na lang ho bahala," he recalled.

Senior Superintendent Abad Osit, assistant chief of the Philippine National Police-Firearms and Explosives Office, earlier said that most stray bullets are recorded in the Camanava area (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, and Valenzuela). —Rie Takumi/ALG, GMA News
