Fire hits Parañaque village

Fire broke out in a residential area in Barangay Sun Valley in Parañaque City on Tuesday evening, James Agustin reported for Super Radyo's dzBB.

It started past 10 p.m. in Sitio Bagong Pag-asa, a report on Unang Balita by Bam Alegre said.

The Bureau of Fire Protection raised the fifth alarm a few minutes before 11 p.m.

Firemen had difficulty putting out the fire due to the narrow streets.

Residents immediately brought their LPG tanks away from the fire.

Parañaque fire marshal Supt. Renato Capuz said 60 houses and 150 families were affected by the fire.

No one was injured in the fire, which was declared under control by 12:07 a.m. Wednesday.

The estimate cost of damage was pegged at P1.5 million. Residents were able to save only a few possessions.

Authorities are still conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, suspected to have started from a candle left burning in one of the homes.

Affected residents have temporarily sought shelter at a nearby basketball court. —BAP/KG, GMA News
