Hundreds of families lose homes to fire in Malabon City

Hundreds of families lost their houses to a fire that broke out Wednesday evening in a residential area in Malabon City, forcing displaced residents to spend the night in evacuation centers and some in the streets.

Dano Tingucngco on Thursday’s Unang Balita reported that no one was reported hurt in the Barangay Catmon fire that lasted six hours, but a resident fainted during the incident.

Hundreds of residents had to stay at the Catmon Integrated School and in a covered court in the barangay. Some sought shelter at the nearby Barangay Tonsuya covered court.

Those who cannot be accommodated in the evacuation centers were forced to stay in the streets, the report added.

Quoting residents, the report said that the fire, believed to have started from a water-refilling station, spread quickly as the houses in the area were made from light materials.

Fire fighters were able put out the fire that reached the second alarm Wednesday midnight, the report said.

Fire authorities are investigating the cause of the fire. —LBG, GMA News
