Atimonan massacre suspects released on bail

Dismissed police Supt. Hansel Marantan and 10 others accused in the 2013 Atimonan bloodbath have been released Thursday evening from the Philippine National Police Custodial Center.

Marantan and others left the detention facility around 9 p.m.

The other police officers who were released after posting bail were:

  • Chief Insp. Grant Gollod
  • Senior Insp. John Paolo Carracedo
  • Senior Insp. Timoteo Orig
  • SPO3 Joselito De Guzman
  • SPO1 Carlo Cataquiz
  • SPO1 Arturo Sarmiento
  • PO3 Eduardo Oronan
  • PO2 Nelson Indal
  • PO1 Wryan Sardea
  • PO1 Rodel Talento.

They were ordered released by the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 34 after they paid the P300,000 bail, through Plaridel Surety and Insurance Company.

They were facing multiple murder charges for the death of 13 people at a checkpoint by a joint force from the local police and military on January 6, 2013 in Atimonan, Quezon.

The court decided to grant the bail petitions of the said accused as the prosecution failed to establish that the evidence of guilt is strong. — BAP, GMA News
