NGCP transmission tower supposedly burned, damaged by illegal settlers near SLEX Alabang exit

A power transmission tower near the Alabang exit of South Luzon Expressway was supposedly burned and damaged by illegal settlers, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines reported on Wednesday.

As a result, the 230-kilovolt Biñan-Muntinlupa line tripped at 9:01 a.m., the grid operator noted in a Facebook post.

"Due to the extent of the fire, the foundation of Tower 34 of the said line was weakened, causing the tower to lean," it said.

"Fortunately, due to NGCP’s line redundancy system, there were no power interruptions," it added.

NGCP personnel were on-site to assess the damage and check the safety perimeter. "Aerial patrols were also conducted to evaluate the integrity of the tower," it said.

NGCP is coordinating with the Bureau of Fire Protection and related agencies regarding the matter.  "Updates will be issued as soon as more information is available," it said. — Ted Cordero/GMA News
