Alleged member of Japanese crime group nabbed in PHL

Immigration officials have arrested an alleged member of a Japanese organized crime group wanted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department for multiple cases of fraud.

According to a report by GMA News' John Consulta on 24 Oras on Wednesday, Yuya Suzuki, 37, was arrested upon the request of the Japanese government.

"Rinequest po ng Japanese Embassy as well as na-inform kami na his passport had already been cancelled, meaning he is already an undocumented alien," Bureau of Immjigration spokesperson Maria Bucasas-Mangrobang said.

"Pananagutan niya ito sa kanyang bansa. Given also the amount of money na nakuha," she added.

The Japanese national, who entered the Philippines in November 2013, merely said no when asked if he had pending cases in Japan and had no comment when asked why he left the country.

Suzuki was nabbed by the fugitive search unit of the BI as he was leaving an exclusive subdivision in Parañaque City. He is currently under BI custody and will be deported to Japan on Thursday.

The BI said his arrest is a continuation of their mission to protect the Philippines from becoming a haven for foreign fugitives.

"The Bureau of Immigration fugitive search unit is in constant search for foreign fugitives," Bucasas-Mangrobang said. Hindi natin ina-allow na yung ating bansa ay gamitin nila bilang taguan or safe haven para sa kanilang mga illegal activities." —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
